Life stone: the stone of the Lagna lord, the planet of the 1st house — health, strength and the self.

Stones of fortune: the stones of the 5th and 9th lords. The 1st, 5th and 9th are the trikona houses, the most favourable in the chart.

A planet that also rules the 6th, 8th or 12th house is flagged: wear its stone only after a full chart check.

Rahu and Ketu stones (Gomed, Lahsunia) are never a first choice; they are worn for a specific dasha or problem on an astrologer's advice.

The rashi (Moon sign) stone is shown too, as many people ask for it, but the Lagna-based stones are the classical choice.
Before you wear a stoneरत्न पहनने से पहले
- Buy a natural, untreated stone with a lab certificate; weight is usually counted in ratti (about 0.91 carat) — commonly 3 to 7 ratti.
- Set it so the stone touches the skin, in the metal given for it.
- Wear it first on its day in the bright half of the month (shukla paksha), in the morning, after washing it in raw milk and Ganga jal and saying its mantra 108 times.
- If you feel unwell or things go wrong soon after, take it off and ask an astrologer.
- A gemstone works with the chart, not against it: the running dasha and the planet's strength decide how much it helps.

Should I wear the gemstone of my rashi?
The rashi stone is a popular simple answer, and it is shown here. Astrologers prefer the stones of the Lagna, 5th and 9th lords, because they come from the whole chart.
Can I wear Blue Sapphire (Neelam)?
Only when Saturn is a good planet for your Lagna — for Taurus, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius Lagna it usually is. It is said to act fast, so many people try it for a few days first.
Which finger should I wear the stone on?
Each stone has its finger: Ruby and Red Coral the ring finger, Yellow Sapphire the index, Blue Sapphire and Diamond the middle, Pearl and Emerald the little finger. The result card shows it with the metal and day.
Can I wear more than one gemstone?
Yes, stones of friendly planets can be worn together — the three stones given here usually are. Avoid pairing stones of enemy planets, such as Ruby with Blue Sapphire.
