Kaal Sarp Dosh Calculatorकाल सर्प दोष जाँच — जन्म तिथि से

Kaal Sarp dosh is when all seven grahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn — lie on one side of the axis between Rahu and Ketu. This check tests that by degree, names the kind from Rahu's house, and tells you which graha stands outside when there is no dosha.

How the check worksजाँच कैसे होती है

  • 1

Rahu and Ketu are always opposite. The check asks whether all seven grahas fall within the 180° from Rahu forward to Ketu, or from Ketu forward to Rahu.

  • 2

It goes by degree, not sign: a graha in Rahu's sign but past Rahu's degree is outside.

  • 3

Udit: the grahas lie from Rahu forward to Ketu. Anudit: from Ketu forward to Rahu.

  • 4

    The twelve kinds follow Rahu's house: Anant (1st), Kulik (2nd), Vasuki (3rd), Shankhapal (4th), Padma (5th), Mahapadma (6th), Takshak (7th), Karkotak (8th), Shankhachud (9th), Ghatak (10th), Vishdhar (11th), Sheshnag (12th).

Rahu is the true node here, the default of the kundli on this site.

What people traditionally doपरंपरागत उपाय

  • Kaal Sarp shanti puja, often at Trimbakeshwar (Nashik), Ujjain or Kalahasti, or at a local Shiva temple.
  • Mahamrityunjaya jaap or Om Namah Shivaya, and abhishek of the Shivling on Mondays.
  • Nag Panchami puja.
  • The classical texts do not name Kaal Sarp as a yoga; it comes from later practice. Read it with the rest of the chart, not on its own.

Classical referenceशास्त्र प्रमाण

The sutras this check rests on, with book, chapter and sloka.

सर्पान्वितः स तु खगः शुभदोऽपि कष्टं
— Phaladeepika (Mantreswara), Ch.20 Antardashaphala, sl. 39

A graha joined by Rahu, even a benefic, brings trouble and sorrow, most of all towards the end of its dasha. Kaal Sarp itself is not named in the classical texts; this is the closest classical statement about Rahu's grip on the grahas.

Questions · प्रश्न

What is Kaal Sarp dosh?

All seven grahas lie on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis, as if held in the serpent's coils. It is read as delays and sudden obstacles that ease with effort and with age.

What is partial Kaal Sarp dosh?

When only one graha stands outside the axis, some astrologers call it partial (anshik) Kaal Sarp. The rule itself needs all seven inside; this check tells you which graha is outside.

How many types of Kaal Sarp dosh are there?

Twelve, named by the house Rahu is in from the Lagna: Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhapal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotak, Shankhachud, Ghatak, Vishdhar and Sheshnag.

Is Kaal Sarp dosh in the classical texts?

Parashara and the other classical texts do not name it. It comes from later practice, which is why it should be read with the whole chart.

Does the birth time matter?

The dosha itself depends on the grahas' degrees, which barely move in a few hours, except the Moon. The kind (from Rahu's house) depends on the Lagna, so the time matters for the name.
