    The Chinese New Year is the second new moon after the winter solstice, by the date in China (UTC+8). The one exception between 1900 and 2100 is 2034, after a leap month.

    The new moons and the solstice are computed from the Swiss Ephemeris; the dates match the published Chinese New Year dates.

    The animal follows a 12-year cycle from the Rat (2020 was a Rat year); the element changes every two years: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth.

    Years ending in an even digit are yang, odd ones yin.
