The Gita Mahatmya is the Sanskrit text that sets out the glory of the Bhagavad Gita and is by custom read along with it. The Gita Press mool Gita prints two parts. In the first, the Earth (Dhara) asks Shri Vishnu how firm devotion can arise while one lives out prarabdha, and Vishnu answers with the glory of practising the Gita; Suta closes it. It is usually traced to the Varaha Purana. The second part has seven shlokas, among them the well-known verse Sarvopanishado gavo.
It is traditionally read at the end of a reading of the Gita, because the last shloka of the first Mahatmya itself says so. This page gives the full text of both parts as printed by Gita Press, a plain meaning under every shloka, and, after sign-in, a free PDF of the whole text.

Second Mahatmya: shloka 5

One god alone: the son of Devaki. One mantra alone: the names that are his. And one work alone: the service of that god.
Two Mahatmyas and where they come from
The first Mahatmya (Bhagavan Parameshana) is usually traced to the Varaha Purana. A manuscript catalogue also lists a 23-verse Gita Mahatmya as part of the Varaha Purana, again a dialogue of the Earth and Vishnu in his boar form. The Gita Press print used here names no Purana on these pages, and we have not checked it against a printed Varaha Purana, so we give this as what tradition holds.
The second Mahatmya (Gitashastram idam punyam) is mostly found under the name of Adi Shankara, though a translator's note says it is not in his collected works; in places it is also linked to the Padma Purana. We could not confirm any of these, and this print names no source either. The Gita Mahatmya published as from the Vaishnaviya Tantrasara is a separate text; of these seven, it has only the verse Sarvopanishado gavo.
The Gita Mahatmya of the Padma Purana is a different and much longer text. It has one story for each of the eighteen chapters of the Gita, eighteen stories in all. The thirty shlokas here are not that text.
How to read it
As the last shloka of the first Mahatmya says, it is read at the end of the Gita. After whatever you read of the Gita that day, one chapter or all eighteen, read the shlokas of the Mahatmya with a quiet mind. If the Sanskrit feels hard, read the meanings first.
The two parts come to thirty shlokas in all, so they can be finished in one sitting. The text sets no number of repetitions; regularity and attention matter more.
How to take the statements of fruit
The first Mahatmya counts out fruit by the amount read: the perfection of knowledge from the whole, the merit of giving a cow from half, the fruit of bathing in the Ganga from a third, the fruit of a soma sacrifice from a sixth. These are the text's own statements, not a promise of ours. One way to take them is that even a little reading is not wasted.
The centre of the text is its first question: how devotion can last while life's allotted experience goes on. The answer in the second shloka is that action leaves no stain on one who stays with the practice of the Gita. It is read as an encouragement to faith and practice, not as a promise of any set result.
When to read
At the end of a reading of the Gita, whether one chapter or all eighteen; on Gita Jayanti and on Ekadashi along with the Gita; and in morning or evening worship on any day.
In your kundli
This text itself sets no classical rule linking it to a graha. In the Jyotish tradition, Jupiter signifies wisdom, dharma and the study of scripture, and the Moon signifies the mind, and the worship of Krishna is often linked with the Moon. So in a Jupiter or Moon mahadasha or antardasha, or when the ninth house (dharma) and fifth house (learning) seem to call for attention, a regular reading of the Gita and its Mahatmya can be taken as a natural practice. How Jupiter, the Moon and these houses stand in your kundli and which dasha is running can be seen by building your kundli on this site.
